Below is a step-by-step guide to prep your quilt for Fat Stitch longarm quilting services. Click here for an in-depth overview of how to prep for longarm machine quilting services and save on costs:
Select Backing fabric: Supply your own or choose the many options we carry at Fat Stitch. Squared backing should be 8 inches larger in both width and height compared to your quilt top. However backing that isn’t squared should be 14 inches taller and 8 inches wider. This extra fabric allows enough room for secure clamping and a smooth finish during machine quilting.
Consider Wide-Width Fabrics: To avoid unnecessary seams on the back and achieve a seamless look, consider using wide back fabrics, like 108″ options, that provide a continuous piece for your backing. Wide back fabric selections can be found at your local quilt shop or you can choose from our selection.
Batting: We use the batting we carry that is 100% premium batting that is free from toxic resins, plastics, and scrims. Customers have the option to choose between Cotton, Bamboo, Bamboo blends in various weights.
Ensure a Smooth Quilt Top: Before shipping, press your quilt top to eliminate any deep wrinkles. Make sure all seams are securely sewn, and remove any pins and loose threads that could interfere with the machine quilting process.
Proper Packaging: When packing your quilt top and any materials we recommend putting them in a protective liner before placing in the box. Use a sturdy, appropriately sized box to protect your quilt during shipping. By following these preparations, you can confidently send off your quilt, knowing it’s ready for professional machine quilting.
